He said, "Just one verse, one word, and one thought..."

As a family, we opened to Romans 12:11.  I know the verse.  We usually hear a message about not being a lazy Christian as we go about our work every day.  While that is true and greatly needed, Ted pointed out that "our business" is to glorify God every day in every thing.  The word that was the focus "fervent in spirit".  It means boiling...boiling over.  Looking at the context of the whole chapter, it made better sense to me.  Romans 12:1-8 teaches us what the perfect will of God is.  Romans 12:9-21 lays out how we ought to be living...overcoming evil with good...a daily "to do" checklist.  I've been meditating on these verses this week...I now understand in a better way why God hates "lukewarm"!
As I look at the list of verses, so many times I am "boiling" in spirit about the insignificant things of life!  It was just one verse, one word, and one thought...but it led to more verses, a bigger list, and a whole lot of conviction!
Revelation 3:15-16
"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."

We're not overcoming evil with good, because we are overcome with evil.
We can't live peaceably with others, because there is not peace lying inside of us.
We don't heap coals of fire on our enemies, because we are using our tongues as flamethrowers.
We can't provide for honest things, because we don't have the mind of Christ.  We trust in ourselves...our views, our thoughts, our attitudes...We're believing Satan's lie!
We won't rejoice in anything nor be grateful, because we are selfish and wouldn't stoop so low.
We don't want to give...anything...that would cost us...something.
It all goes back to Romans 12:2...we haven't been transformed by the renewing of our mind...so then we can't prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God!

I'm so thankful verse 3 talks about His grace..."but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith."
