"It doesn't matter what everyone else is doing..."

I have heard that statement many times over the years followed by, "Just because everyone else is doing it, doesn't make it right!"  It is a daily struggle for a child and adult alike to do what is right when others around them are not!  The Bible tells us over and over not to be looking at what others do.  II Corinthians 10:12-18 "For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves:  but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.  But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you...but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged...For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth."  What a study that chapter turns out to be!  Who...or what is our standard of living based upon?
We are to be looking at what God's Word tells us.  Searching the Scriptures daily.  People fail and fall.  Proverbs 13:20 "He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed."  Who are we surrounding ourselves with?
Romans 14:11-12 "For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."  There is nothing mentioned in Scripture about a group effort!  There won't be a buddy system or a crowd consensus when we stand before God.  It won't matter at that point to God what everyone else was doing...He will be asking about you!  Look at the words He used...."knee (singular), tongue (singular), one of us (singular), and himself "(singular).
Interesting to me...we spend more time looking at what everyone else is doing and then we use that as our standard.  Then we can shift the blame on them too.  And the people that we followed and eventually blame for our mistakes/problems/sin...won't be standing there with us!  And you know...they won't accept the blame either!  Romans 13 would be a good place to start reading right about now!  It doesn't matter what everyone else is doing!  What are YOU doing?  Romans 13:14 "But put ye one the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof."
