He asked me, "Listen to this...and tell me...What does that mean to you?"

Surrender:  to cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority;  to give up or hand over a person, rights, or possessions typically on compulsion or demand;  to abandon oneself entirely to a powerful emotion or influence, to give in to;  lose a point, game, or advantage;  an insured person cancels (a life insurance policy) and receive back a proportion of the premiums paid

All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live
All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow
Worldly pleasures all forsaken
Take me, Jesus, take me now
I surrender all
I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Savior
I surrender all
All to Jesus I surrender
Make me Savior wholly thine
May Thy Holy Spirit fill me
May I know Thy power divine
I surrender all
I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Savior
I surrender all
To me...it means saying I am not going to hold on to having and doing things my own way.  It means letting go and following God's way...and not taking things back into my grasp and hold.  It means hands off!  It is easy to say I will let go of control...but it is another thing to actually release the grip you have on something and actually let it go.  It's our human instinct to grab at what is falling, tumbling, and spinning out of control.
God's ways are not our ways!  He does not flail His hands trying to gain control.  He always has us in His grip and under control.  His time table is not our time table!  He has plans.  We have plans.  But what happens when the plans don't match up...when we get anxious and frustrated...when we don't like His plans...when we second guess His plans...
Surrender is more than just an idea we sang about our whole life.  It is living in faith.  It is bringing our thoughts and plans in line with what He wills by asking in prayer.  Surrender is a daily letting go to allow God to work in the small details as well as in the big ideas...for His good purpose knowing He will get the glory.  What am I attempting to hold on to each day?  What will it take for me to freely give in surrender?

From winter to spring to summer

Psalm 43:10  "Be still and know that I am God."
"Oh the goodness, the goodness of Jesus...satisfied...He is all that I need...may it be...come what may...
that I rest all my days in the goodness of Jesus!"
Last July 31, 2021, I shared a picture of the same flowers...but no words.  And now...a year later...I took the same picture of my front flowerbed...reflecting once again on the seasons of life.  My last post on this site was in January...and then silence.  I find it interesting that I went silent about so many things that I was struggling with and learning while living each day trying to focus on doing what I needed to do.  Sometimes are like that!  Struggles are private things...that sometimes we share once we get to the other side.  I know people see when we struggle...but they don't know the deep down stuff unless we share it.  They may assume...I know because I do it...but they will be totally misinformed and mistaken!  For now...I just know that each season of life brings struggles that are private heart matters and I am not obligated to share all the details of what God is doing...till He prompts to do so.  In a day where everyone feels the need to post the good, bad, and ugly...I'm finding the richness of holding on to some times as just for our family.  Such sweet times with Him are so personal...maybe in the next season...I'll be ready to share the good, bad, and ugly.

Missing Peace

"Don't allow other people to hold the key to your peace of mind."

We are living in a world of no peace!  Satan has attacked the peace of Christians and they have continued to hold on to the lies that satan has used.  Now...no one has peace!

Shame on us!

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not asthe world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

It is so discouraging these days to go out and about anywhere in our state of Michigan.  People are out of their mind...mostly impacted by the fear of what may be.  No peace...masked faces and darting eyes...wary or accusing at every turn.  I cannot and will not live like that!  I smile at people when I go out!  But more often than not...I don't go out...because I can't take the oppression and lack of peace.

And even sadder...people of the church are living that same exact way!  It stunned me when one lady even went so far to say "You need to do the Christian thing..." when it comes to CDC or WHO standards that are ever changing and flip-flopping.  What!?  We are now two years into this mess...and we still are blinded by the lies of satan and his army.

It bothers me greatly...yet...I feel that I cannot even utter an opposite view because I will be (have been) attacked and labeled unloving and uncaring.  Since when did we move away from taking care of our own house...family?  Who on this earth decided that the government will make decisions for our home...family?  We have never consulted them before and will not start now!  They do not know what is best for our home...family.  They do not point me to God's way...so why do so many people think that I will even consider their way?  These are the same groups of people who kill babies and elderly.  These are the same people who ignore and silence God's Word and His way.  They are working in opposition to God's laws...so why now in 2021 and 2022 would I all of a sudden begin to follow their recommendations for life? or godliness?

FEAR of getting sick or dying?  Really.  Like I can control what only God has control over!?

2 Timothy 1:7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

I will not follow our governments' way of thinking because it is anti-Bible and anti-God!  I will take care of our home...family...in the best way by following years of sound instruction for physical, mental, emotional, psychological  and spiritual stability!  Take care of the body God gave you by eating healthy food.  Sleep.  Exercise.  Vitamins.  Washing hands regularly.  Working hard.  Spending time in prayer and in God's Word.  Trusting in the sovereign God who has always been faithful!  A shot isn't going to fix life's problems!

And when God decides to announce it is my time to leave this earth...I will gain Heaven!  So we choose to live in peace...here on earth...by quieting the noise of the Covid chaos and craze that is driving everyone to their breaking point.

Either way...I win following God's way...peace here and now or Heaven!  Some Christians need to spend time reading God's Words more than listening to man's words.  Remember...satan, the enemy of God...the great deceiver...is still walking around as a roaring lion...did you forget that God said it would be this way?

What is wrong with those that say they follow Christ?  You have an opportunity to live out what you have said you believe...but yet...all I hear is attacks and name calling and accusations that I am "not being Christian.'  What?!?  And what you are doing is Christian?

Jesus called out those who were spreading lies and doing things under the guise of religion and they hated him for it.  As a Christ follower, I am doing my best to follow Christ's example.  He did not cower under the evil of the Roman government.  He obeyed the will of His Father...Who is also my Heavenly Father!   My God says not to fear.  My God says let not your heart be troubled.  My God says I should be perfect (mature),stablished, strengthened, and settled.  My God says I need to watch and wait for His coming.

 I Peter 5:7-11

I am done being told by Christians to just follow what the CDC and WHO are telling us to do.  I will not take counsel from fearful people or institutions who endorse killing people.  I will take care of the body God gave me using the brain that He gave me to research and find the truth as best as I can.  Do not spread your fear on me and then be ugly about it.  That is NOT how a Christ follower should act.  That is NOT loving.  That is NOT truth.

I am tired of all the noise from all the fear-filled people.  I wish more faith-filled people would stand up and be louder than the noise...but FEAR has silenced everyone!  And so we say nothing...so as not to cause a scene or be labeled unloving or uncaring.  We are admonished to show grace...but I believe we are misusing grace!  But that is where Christians went with this whole Covid chaos right from the get go...show grace and do what the evil government tells you and don't ask questions.  Where is my grace?  When will it end?  Where is the line?  The damage to our testimony as a Christ follower has been done...and Christians have helped.  I'm curious...what will it take to get your peace back?

Always remembering that there is something to delight in each day!

With each new year comes many moments of reflection and remembrance, usually regarding the previous year.  The older I get, the farther back I go in counting the blessings that have added up year after year.  This week in Kindergarten, we have talked about why Jesus came at Christmas.  I have shared with my class that Jesus didn't stay a baby...He grew in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52.  He grew up and lived his life without sin!  Jesus is our example.  He taught us how to love others as He loved His Father.  Each evening, I have the opportunity to talk to my husband who is a thousand miles away working.  Most days, I am able to function in peace and happiness.  But if I am honest, there are many days that I am hanging on and trying to be joyful in our present situation and it is so hard my throat constricts with tears when I see he is calling.  I will myself to not dissolve into a puddle of tears when I hear his voice.  I long for his hugs and company.  We share the usual pleasantries and exchanges about our day or the latest news...both working through the loneliness...and then the real stories of the day start...and I find my resolve to find my strength in the Lord and keep going each day...
because God has given my husband a work to do that is far beyond the business of this world!  Ted shares the conversations and questions that he has each day with co-workers on all different levels...often at the hardest times...and I wipe the tears silently away and pray for his wisdom and strength to keep on doing what is right in the face of hard.
I'm a grown up.  I have lived 52 years so far...and still counting thankfully.  I would like to think I have friends and can get along with people.  But the part of the verse that has hit me this week as I have explained it to my class..."in favor with God..."
I want God to be happy with my life.  And right now He is asking me to live for Him in Michigan while my husband lives for Him in Georgia.  I am spending a lot of time looking back to what God has taught us through our years together.  I am choosing to delight in the circumstances that God has brought to our life right now in 2022.  And I want to be genuine in my thoughts and life as I share with my five and six year olds that Jesus' way is the best way to live in favor with God and man!  I won't lie and say it is easy, but I will say that it is worth it if people can see Jesus in our lives.
"but his delight is in the law of the LORD..."
Psalm 1
LORD, please help me to think right!  Help me to focus on the right things...even when it is hard.

Peace that only God can give...2020

How are you ever prepared to hear the word cancer?  We wait for tests.  We wait to hear results of tests.  And then...the result is known...it is what you hoped...prayed  it wouldn't be.  Now it is known.

How do you help someone deal with what all that word means?  We wait for appointments.  We wait for more tests and scans.  And...we pray...and wait some more.

My sister got the diagnosis of breast cancer.

How?

Why?

What?!

I sat stunned after the news...knowing that it is not going to be an easy thing to deal with...so many questions.  Fear of the unknown and fear of the known.  Plans.

And in the midst of it all...there is peace.  Peace in knowing that the God who loves me...loves her...has all things under His control.  He knew the results of the tests long before we did.  He has allowed this in her life for a reason...I have no idea what that is or why it is necessary.  But I do know from the past...that God is always good and He will give what is needed in the storms of life.

I will not fear.

I will trust.

I will cry with my sis.  I will laugh with her.  I will hold her hand.  I will share time in this storm.

We have talked about this hope our whole life.  We have read the words of God for ourselves and taught it to others.  We have sung about our God.  We have memorized the Scripture...and now...we draw on all that we have learned and know to be true and say we believe!

Only He can give a peace that passes all understanding in the storms of life!

Be Still and Know

The girls and I got to go away again this year for a girls get-away to Grand Haven/Springlake.  This time we brought a friend with us to celebrate Alisa's graduation!  We stayed in the same AirBnB as last year.  It was so cozy, clean, and cool.  We so enjoy the area and atmosphere even with things not being like we planned.  We ate yummy food, drank coffee, shopped, slept, read, laughed, talked, and enjoyed the beach!  We couldn't wait to go...we've been counting down the days!  Waiting with anticipation!
The Grand Haven State Park beach was closed Sunday afternoon till further notice due to the loss of a 14 year old boy on Sunday.  The warnings had gone out on Friday for the beaches.  Red flags all weekend.  The waves were furious and crashing.  People from out of town do not understand the power of Lake Michigan...they don't respect it like they should even with warnings.  It has been an age-old problem at beaches all over our country.  As we readied for our trip Sunday night, I read the warnings and looked forward to being able to see the crashing waves!  Then I read the update about how a boy went missing and beach goers formed a human chain and were walking the water...being tossed around by the waves...they tried...but there was no way they were even close to helping.  I can't imagine the helpless feeling...trying to help while waiting for the experts...only to have the experts say it is too dangerous to bring out the boat.  The helicopter was out, divers were in the water.  The force of the waves too strong!  Only God could calm the waves and help the searchers!
Waiting...in that situation is excruciating and painful...but waiting was the only option.
My brother was part of the search and recovery team.  They spent part of Sunday and Monday searching as best they could.  My heart hurt for the family and the searchers and we prayed for them.  We went to another beach and enjoyed the sand and the sun.  It was a beautiful time together.  We were in awe of the power of the waves on Monday and the quiet of them on Tuesday!  Tuesday the lake was calm and the team found the boy in the afternoon.  It was hard to be upset that our plans were interrupted by the loss of a child.  People cared for that family and helped them generously.  We adjusted our plans and still got to do what we wanted...it just looked a little different...but then again...everything looks different due to the Covid craze!  Even the ordinary things are not as easy...and then the extraordinary happens...and we see people still helping in any way they can...because if the shoe was on the other foot...we would hope for the same help.  Wednesday brought the crashing waves again...and I loved their song.  There is something peaceful and refreshing to my heart as I listen to the waves crash on the shore.  I never grow tired of the sound.
As the family's grief washes over them in waves, I prayed for peace to calm the hearts and minds of all involved.  I don't know if they know Christ.  Waiting can be dangerous or tricky...if you wait too long...you may miss a chance or opportunity.
As I sat and watched the waves and people at the beach on Wednesday, I wondered how many of them knew what had happened.  I wondered if any of them looked at the yellow flag that offers a warning to all beach goers.  I hoped that people would heed the warnings given by the Coast Guard...the ones who watch and patrol...the same ones who have to rescue and recover.  It is in the times of peace and quiet that we all have to come to terms with our thoughts and attitudes about life.  Life is fragile.  There are dangers.  I think that is why many people do not give themselves time to be still...quiet...because they don't want to think and face the reality that we will not live forever here on earth.  There is life after...where will you spend it?
When I hear and see the waves crash...it brings a quiet peace to my heart.  I crave time to just sit and rest at the beach!  I think of the vast power of God.  I think of God's unending patience with me.  I think of the love of God...and how it reaches to all mankind.  I think of God's sovereign control in our lives...He knows the number of the grains of sand...the vastness of all the lakes and oceans...and yet He cares for me.

Hands...

As I am getting older, I am finding that the strength in my hands is diminishing.  I notice it especially when I am working on a project that requires repetitive action...pulling weeds, kneading dough, scrubbing stains, scraping paint, painting, cutting bulletin board items with scissors, and even typing.
We use our hands for so many different jobs throughout the course of the day.  I am thankful for the mobility I do have.  I do not take the use of my hands for granted.

I have always noticed people's hands.  I loved my Gram's hands.  I remember her hands being crippled with arthritis and she would shake them in the mornings.  She used her hands to serve her family and her Lord.  I think I was most impressed by how her hands had worked so hard through the years...most often...blessing others.  She made so many good things to eat.  She made things for her Sunday school girls.  She did so many things all the time.  I would hold her hand and trace her veins when I was little.  We did not get to see her very often but she would hold our hands.

I've been thinking a lot lately about working with my hands...doing for others...doing those things well.  Ecclesiastes 9:10 "Whatsoever thy hand finder to do, do it with thy might;  for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."  I must learn from those who have gone before to work with my hands.  Titus 2

Hands often show the hard work of person does.  I have had to learn that I am not called to do everything all the time.  I must learn to relax, let go, and rest which allows everyone else to have a chance to learn to use their hands to do good for others. There is a time to let go.  I am so thankful that I can use my hands to do good.  God made me with the ability to work and to teach our children to work, as well.  I have been hit with the realization that sometimes...I need to stop working and let go...and allow God to work.  There is a point that my working hands can get in the way of God working His plan.  I am seeing the importance of working at the same time letting go.

My hands do many things during the day!  Washing, pointing, juggling, throwing, writing, cutting, hugging, catching, grasping, balancing, folding, squeezing, griping...closed and open.
My hands and fingers are not for the purpose of holding on to everything in life...that action physically brings cramping and pain after a short time.

Humanly, it is impossible to literally hold on to every part of life.  There are somethings that I must allow others to care for.  There are things that only God can hold and handle.
There are things that I am not meant to hold on to...my strength fails me...I get tired and I lose my grip.  I cannot juggle too many things...I know I am not successful in that feat.
It is better when I let go...the release brings relief.
I do not need to live with fear, pain, and stress of trying to hold on and hold everything together.
That is not my job!  I have the ability to handle only a certain amount...
there is no sense in trying to hold more than I am physically capable of holding.

Open hands show an acceptance for what is coming to fill them.
If my hands are already full...clutching to something else...I might miss what is coming.
God...the Master Creator...of my hands...
holds me safely in His hands...

So while I work and plan with my hands...I hold to God's almighty hand...
holding loosely to my feeble attempts...knowing God is in control.

2018 It has been a year...almost...since I posted here.

It isn't for lack of learning!  It has been for a lack of choosing to take time to put all my thoughts in writing.  I have had to once again stand and watch and wait.  Then I have had to focus my time and energy to doing what I needed to do.  I have watched the mercy drops fall gently around me.  At first they started gently...but then...they became showers of blessings.  All I could do was stand and watch and say, "I don't know why, Lord.  It hurts every time, but I will trust You because I watched You protect and provide for me before.  Thank You, Lord, for teaching me again that You are in control and You have something for me to learn in every circumstance!"
As I ministered to the needs of one of our children, the thought came to me, "Why?  Why this?  Is it really necessary?  We can't do anything about this.  Why aren't You using people to fix this who can do something about this?"  And then I remembered...to be still and wait and watch...asking the Lord for wisdom to help someone weaker than I to be able to "handle or deal" with this type of situation...and I thought of the umbrella.
We are surrounded by people.  People have storms in their life, and often they aren't prepared for those storms.  Because we work, live, and go to school with people...we will inevitably stand near or under someone else's storm.  We may be affected by that storm.  We can have our protective rain-gear on...and still get splashed by their mess.
I stand under the protection of God's care for me as His child.  I willingly
ask for His help each day in my life.  But trials come...the wind blows that umbrella inside out sometimes...but I still cling to the umbrella and fight to get it back in the right position!  Even under His protection...the attack can seem to come from out of nowhere...and there you stand wondering what just happened and why!
I beginning to understand why we have experienced some of the storms in our life...so we can help our children!

2017 When life challenges me...

there are some things that I go back to over and over again.  And when satan attacks the thoughts again...I go back to Philippians 4:4-8.
IT MATTERS WHAT I THINK ON! AND WHERE MY FOCUS IS!

I've been wearing my running shoes...

and have left my slippers in the closet lately!  One thing I have learned...if I don't start out my day with time set aside for the Lord...it doesn't happen.  I trip.  I stumble.  I go the wrong way.  I fall...and usually it is not a graceful slow fall.  It is an all out ugly face plant.
After being home for several years, my world has been turned upside down working full time.  Our whole family has pitched in to make the adjustment...because there is no way I could keep up otherwise...since I am that weaker vessel!  The Lord did allow me to work into the idea a year ago as I began substitute teaching.  I knew I could handle it...with help!  I will not lie...I liked the freedom of not formally working, but I had too much free time!  I did not want to be idle.  I did not want my family to suffer.  God gave me a job that works with our family schedule.  I am truly grateful to be able to help take some of the financial pressure off Ted's shoulders.  As our children continue to grow up, there are added expenses that come and will keep coming.  I am thankful for God's provision in all areas of life...and in the changes of life situations.  I still hold to the truth that the hardest place to maintain a Godly response to life is in the home!  I must remember:  1.)  I have an audience with God.  2.)  I have an audience with my family.
I am living with that reality right now...not in my slippers, but with running shoes on for most of the day.  It is easy to put a happy face on to help others and then totally lose it at home because you are tired and because...well...you can...because you are home.  NO!  The people who are loving and supporting me (by helping me with projects at work and aiding me in the running of our home) deserve my love and respect no matter how tired I am!  I am thankful for the strength that God gives toward the things He has called me to do right now...and the list of things that haven't been on His list for me...have been easy to decline.  I can't do everything all the time, and He has given me the wisdom to ask Him and allow Him to lead in those decisions.  I want this life race He has given me to be run well and consistently.  These have been the thoughts I've been entertaining since March...and today...I've finally been able to stop and catch my breath before the next lap starts!  Onward and upward!

Not spending that much time in my slippers lately...

since I started working in the preschool program at our school this fall.  I have so many notes and thoughts, but limited time to post here.  Per Ted’s request, each week I write a note to wives and mothers in a weekly email he sends out for our Sunday School small group.  (He has a special note he writes to the Husbands and Fathers.)
We have a study paper with questions and verses, so we can prepare for the following week.  I find myself meditating on these thoughts throughout the week!  I'll start sharing some of these thoughts here...as a way of keeping myself accountable to the things that God has brought to my attention.
So...what begins while I am still in my slippers...affects the hours I am in my shoes and on my feet!

**As I sit each week in our small group, I am encouraged with the fact that there are other families that are in the trenches of parenting.  We all have struggles!  The best place we can go for wisdom and encouragement is God's Word and God's house.  What a responsibility that places on each of us to be "doing" and not hearing only!  We are held accountable for the example we have before others...at home, at church, and everywhere else we go.  I'm so thankful for our church leaders, programs, services...but all those aspects of "church" are God's people loving and serving in a biblical manner.  We have an incredible job to be a help-meet to our husbands, as they lead our homes and train our children to be the next biblically sound church members.**

There are things that really make me angry!

I am not going to post them, as it would serve no edifying purpose.  This morning, I am stopping to spend time "abiding" and to get rid of those frustrated, angry thoughts and feelings...whether justified or not.  Wow...as a woman...I can justify just about anything to fit my purpose and my perceptions!
And that is scary to me...in light of what I am reading each day in devotions, memorizing in Scripture, and studying in our Sunday School small group.  I am filling my mind with good things...and I still struggle!  I guess this would be a test for me today...every day!  Where the rubber meets the road!  Where practice what you preach comes into play!   Where I make a choice to obey!
I wouldn't feel better "putting it out there and getting it off my chest"!  I would feel bad for dragging other people through the mire of my discontent about daily situations of life...that sometimes...just irk the fire out of me.  I do want to say...there are things that are legitimate to be angry about...things that violate God's Word.  God's Word is the measuring stick...not my opinion.  I am not talking about those things.
I am talking about those little things that tend to stack up.  The things that cause us to say, "Why in the world?  What?  Oh for goodness' sake!  Unbelievable!"   So often...I applaud myself for keeping my thoughts to myself...but a thought turns into a heart attitude quickly...which becomes an action...even in little proportions.  I know!  I know the verse, Proverbs 4:23.
So now...here is a real life situation...what am I going to do with it?  It isn't going to go away.  It will daily be in my face for the next...several years, probably...that's life!  Ephesians 4:26-27 comes to mind..."Be angry and sin not...Neither give place to the devil."  James 1 is a great place to abide today...especially verse 26 "..and bridleth not his tongue..."  Yikes!  Keep your mouth shut, Kari!  Phil. 4:8  Keep your thinking right, Kari!
We are tempted when we are drawn away by our own lusts...desires of what we want...selfishness...how I am affected...how I don't like what is taking place...how my actions are perceived...why I did what I did...why can't you... See the wrong thinking patterns?  I, me, my.
verse 16, 19 "Do not err (be mistaken or incorrect; make a mistake; sin: do wrong), my beloved brethren.  ...let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath..."
When I step back and look at this...I need to let go and give it to God!  I can ask questions...and I must listen to know how to speak rightly.  So often, I think if I started there...I wouldn't have to deal with those angry thoughts which breed those crazy feelings!  I start at the wrong point...a focus on self...and I am all mixed up and upside down in my thinking.  James talks about that in chapter 1 verse 8..."A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways."  As a woman...a created emotional being (this is not an excuse...it is an explanation)...it is easy to get all mixed up and upside down in my thinking.  (Ummm...I know...first hand...that I am not the only female with this tendency!  But I won't call you out!)  Some times are much harder than others.  My heart's prayer for today...and every day...is that God would keep me stable...and thinking right!  Those things that I get angry about...ummm...not really as big of a deal as I first thought...most of the time.  It is really wonderful...to get this figured out...while still in my slippers in the privacy of our home.

We have had such challenging messages and lessons...

that I am still thinking on and re-reading notes and passages of Scripture.  My heart is full of thankfulness for God's Word meeting each and every area of need I have!  We have been focusing on these different passages in our home each week. Our pastor has been preaching through a series on "Respectable Sins".  So often, we excuse certain things in our life and refuse to call it what it is...sin!  This week's topic...Sins of the Tongue.  OUCH!  My tongue hurts...just as much as my heart has hurt.  How quickly we brush off the sting of words...when we are the one speaking them!  It is not so easy to rid your heart of the hurt of words.  It is a daily battle...and God commands us to wage war!
Ephesians 4:29
"Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth..."  Any speech that tears someone down, either the one we are talking about or the one we are talking to.  Have you ever thought about the fact that you can be tearing down the person you are talking to?!  Pastor challenged us with this thought..."When others stand before Christ to give an account, will we have helped them in areas in which they struggled?"  It is easy to think of "those other people" who tear people down and it is no secret...but what about me!?  There are people in my past that just the mention of their name reminds me of the hurt their tongues brought.  By God's grace, love and forgiveness has covered the hurt, so I can move one and continue to invest my life in others.  I should not put others at an arm's length because I have refused to let go of hurt!  I need to weigh each thought and word I speak!  Tearing things apart is fun and easy...building takes work and investment of your life...heart and time.  Pastor put it this way..."If I use my tongue to sin, it is not an "Oops!".  It is a window to my heart!  If my tongue is sinning...my heart was already sinning!"  Proverbs 29:20, Matthew 12:34-37, James 3:8-10  The hurt we endure should cause in us a heart of compassion for those whose hearts are filled with darkness.
"...but that which is good to the use of edifying..."  We have an obligation to line people up with Scripture!  Philippians 2:3, Proverbs 10:18, 28, Proverbs 12:22
"...that it may minister grace unto the hearers."  We must guard the heart that guides the tongue!  Psalm 19:14, Colossians 4:6
As we drove to school this morning, we were reviewing this verse and talking about times that we might be tempted to react with corrupt communication.  I shared with our children that communication doesn't just mean our words...it includes our actions (rolling eyes, dropping our head, hands on our hips...) and expressions (facial and sounds).  It hits me very personally and I see the same struggles in our children as we enter the next parenting chapter...pre-teen/teen.
I am thankful for the preaching and teaching we are hearing as a family...and a husband who is leading us to focus our attention throughout the week on God's Word!  It is not for everyone else...it is for me!

God knew I needed to hear this last night...to focus on today!

As a wife and mother, there certainly are some days that seem to swallow me up with the cares of...life!  I know that today I have allowed certain things to bring more cares and consternation than is legitimately needed.  I have spent the time reading and studying in my Bible...guess what the topic was...choices!  I have prayed.  I have listened to good music.  I have done what I need to do to take care of my family.  Yet...I am not feeling peaceful inside.  I am agitated...so it is to my room I go...to once again ask God for His help and His peace.  And then I am constantly interrupted...about non-important things by children who have only one focus...what they need right now.  Then the arguing...that can't be ignored.  Finally the rough-housing...inside...when it is beautiful outside..."GO OUTSIDE!  IT IS BEAUTIFUL!  GET OUT...TAKE A BREAK FROM SCHOOLWORK AND QUESTIONS AND NEEDS...GO!" (Dare I even admit...they have only been home from school for an hour and a half?!  It was time for them to do something other than school!  Ok...but what is my problem?  I had all day at home...and quiet.  Now...it is not quiet.)
Honestly, I told them to go as nice as I could...but I didn't feel that nice...peaceful and calm...on the inside.  They felt the snap at their last outburst.  Satan knows the weak spots on this beautiful, sunny day...I know...I feel the shade and surges!  It happens...it goes along with the role I play in our family.

Like a river glorious is God’s perfect peace,
Over all victorious, in its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth fuller every day,
Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.

Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest
Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
    Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.

Every joy or trial falleth from above,
    Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love;
    We may trust Him fully all for us to do;
They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.

I am thankful that I am not alone!  As I lean on Him...He gives me that peace I need to face the next interruption or disheveled spirit.
